Afrobeatnik at Seattle Restored and Black Arts Love

It’s been a whirl-wind year for my vintage and upcycled clothing business Afrobeatnik. Back in April 2022, this resurgence of this project was just a mere idea in boxes stacked in my living room. Fast-forward one year and we’ve spent three months in a beautiful store-front in downtown Seattle via the Seattle Restored program and now we’ve found a longer-term home at Black Arts Love— a new retailer of exclusively Black-owned products located in Capitol Hill.

It’s been surprising, to say the least, how fast things have been moving. I enjoy beyond measure hoping in the car and traveling to all the corners, nooks and crannies of the Pacific Northwest to find clothes worth restoring and reselling. It honestly feels like I’m searching for treasure and it’s such an adventure. I’ve been grateful for the experiences that feel like an adventure— anything that takes me out of my routine, particularly since the pandemic. The variance keeps my mind excited, which is one reason I love vintage, it’s one of the most eclectic and poignant way to express your unique energy.

Check out some of my vintage collection at Black Arts Love and stay tuned for the development of my online store later in 2023.
