Hosted by the Northwest African American museum and planned in conjunction with 25+ community organizations and leaders, MLK60 honored the history of civil rights in Seattle, our community-leading elders, and, ever-poignantly, Dr. King’s 1961 visit to Seattle initiated by his long-time friend and beloved Seattle leader, the late Rev. Samuel B. McKinney of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
As a communications and digital media strategist for the Northwest African American Museum, my role entailed:
Designing and overseeing production of event signage and promotional materials
Overseeing design of event branding
Coordinating and hosting press conference featuring Dr. King’s son Martin Luther King Jr. III
Creating and distributing media to the press
Facilitating a prime-time television interview with Martin Luther King Jr. III
Creating documentary short that features Black community leaders reflecting on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1951 visit to Seattle.
